We Use Camping Cookware Outside for Thanksgiving Dinner |

Have you ever cooked using coals that have been buried underground to cook food? We traditionally go out on an all day picnic to cook our food and use camping cookware to prepare the whole meal. The turkey goes into a sealed pan and is buried in campfire coals to cook. We dig a hole and fill the bottom with hot coals and then put the turkey in the sealed roaster on top, and then fill the hole up with the rest of the coals, cover it with dirt, and let the bird cook for hours. We use the other camping cookware to prepare the rest of the dishes that include mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, dressing, and all the other trimmings for a wonderful Thanksgiving meal.
We love camping and picnicking on the Sonoran desert where we live. Usually Thanksgiving weather is pretty good, but if it is cold and windy we recreate the meal in the backyard using firewood for the fireplace. We use the same camping cookware on the barbecue as we would over the campfire, so it's as close to being out in the wild as we can get, given the nasty weather. |
